CSR guidelines Sustainability

1. Basic policy

(1) Principles concerning CSR behavior patterns (accountability, transparency, and ethical behavior)

Chikuma is responsible for explaining to its stakeholders and the general public the impact its decisions and activities have on society, the economy and the environment (accountability). It is desirable that such reports are presented in a clear and objective manner so that stakeholders may accurately evaluate the impact that our decisions and activities have on their own interests (principle of transparency). We will also base our actions on ethical principles, including honesty, fairness and integrity (principles of ethical conduct).

(2) Respect for stakeholder interests and mutual trust

In line with our corporate philosophy of “co-existence and co-prosperity”, Chikuma will make every effort to engage in honest dialogue with our employees, customers, business partners, shareholders, the local community and other stakeholders and will aim to respect the interests of our stakeholders and take note of their concerns and opinions in our decision making process in order to contribute to society and fulfill our CSR obligations.

(3) Principles concerning respect for the law (respect for the rule of law, respect for international norms of behavior and respect for human rights)

Chikuma acknowledges that it exists together with society in accordance with the law and ethical standards, and places an emphasis on compliance with the law and respecting fair social norms in order to perform its business activities in line with a strong sense of ethics (respect for the rule of law). In addition to the law, Chikuma also respects internationally accepted norms (respect for international norms of behavior). Further, we also respect essential and universal human rights (respect for human rights) and believe that balancing ethical behavior and economic performance will help to improve long-term trust and corporate value.

(4) Establishment of a CSR management framework

In addition to implementing CSR activities, we will make every effort to establish a PDCA framework to create a cycle of determining plans of action (PLAN), implementing them (DO), reviewing progress and results (CHECK) and making improvements to resolve problems if any (ACT).

2. Basic policy and action guidelines for each core subject

(1) Organizational governance

Through the promotion of sound management based on our corporate philosophy and sustainability management (management of basic policy for the promotion of CSR and SDGs and dissemination of such policy within the company), we aim to further enhance business continuity. We will also make every effort to ensure thorough compliance, compliance with ethical standards, and protect data security and privacy as part of our risk management. We will also promote new sustainable businesses, promote innovation, and enhance corporate value through our core businesses.

(2) Fair operating practices

To ensure fair transactions, we will promote compliance with business laws and regulations and promote their dissemination within the company. We will also contribute to ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns by enforcing non-statutory social rules and business practices, performance of our contractual obligations, and strengthening supply chain management. Chikuma will also make every effort to prevent corporate misconduct and promote business activities with our business partners for mutual sustainable development.

(3) Human rights

Chikuma respects the human rights of each individual and will not discriminate, harass, or otherwise treat any individual unfairly, based on sex (gender), age, ethnicity, race, nationality, religion, creed, social status, disability, or any other factor. We are committed to promoting our business activities while respecting the fundamental human rights of all stakeholders.

(4) Labor practices

In order to realize "decent work" in the form of work that is both rewarding and humane, we will strive to create a workplace environment that embraces diversity and improves work-life balance. We are working to improve the motivation and competencies of our employees with the aim of developing global human resources who can play an active role in our workplaces both here in Japan and overseas. We will also maintain safe and hygienic work and workplace environments.

(5) Consumer issues

We will strive to improve the quality of our products and services to maximize customer satisfaction while maintaining strict quality control systems across the entire value chain, including the promotion of compliance with all consumer laws and regulations and traceability. Recognizing that the safety of our products, services, and customers is paramount to our business activities, Chikuma is committed to providing products and services that function safely and can be used with peace of mind. We also aim to achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction through the production of products that conform to our product development concept "environment, safety and security, good design, Fukuiku® (clothing-based training activities)*3 (education)" and through Fukuiku (contributing to clothing culture and education).

*3An initiative to further an understanding of social issues such as TPO and manners, environmental issues, health and safety, internationality and culture, etc. and develop real life skills primarily through clothing.

(6) Community involvement and development

Through Fukuiku and other activities, we will strive to become more involved with the local community and schools, etc. and promote activities that contribute to the resolution of local issues and the sustainable development of communities based on themes such as the environment, safety and security, education, sociality, and culture.

(7) The environment

We are working to achieve sustainable development of the global environment by promoting activities to reduce our environmental footprint (resource conservation, waste reduction, energy conservation, etc.) across the entire value chain. We will also promote environmental management and collaborate with our stakeholders.
